Abuja, 14/09/2023 – Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation, an Africa – focussed and Nigeria based climate action and sustainable tourism foundation operating at the intersection of tourism, trade and sustainability on Thursday, 14th September, 2023, signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Park Service, the foremost agency of the Federal government under the Federal Ministry of Environment mandated to protect, preserve and conserve Nigeria’s flora and fauna.
The momentous MOU-signing took place at the national headquaters of the National Park Service in Abuja.
The occasion had the Conservator General and management of the National Park Service in attendance whilst Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation Board and management was represented by the founder and chairperson, Abigail Adesina Olagbaye.
The scope of the 5 year- partnership includes areas such as sustainable tourism, eco tourism, sustainability, climate action, green trade, environmental protection, bio- diversity conservation, advocacy, training and capacity building to mention a few.
Of particular importance is the impact and opportunities this partnership will create for youths, women, communities and MSMEs.
The National Park Service manages the 17 national parks in Nigeria some of which includes Gashaka Gumpti National Park, Old Oyo National Park, Kainji Lake National Park, Kamuku National Park, Okomu National Park etc. and some of the newly created parks namely, Galgore Game Reserve, Kano State, Oba Hill National Park, Osun state, Pandam National Park, Plateau state, Apoi National Park, Bayelsa state, Hadejia Wetland National Park, Jigawa state etc.
The partnership comes into effect immediately as Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation unveils some of its advocacy and programmes for Nigeria and Africa.
The foundation re- affirms its committment to impactful partnerships with strategic public and private actors, development partners, institutions, civil society, policymakers, stakeholders, communities, industry etc, as it aligns its programmes in support of the implementation of global and continental treaties, agreements and frameworks that scale, develop, promote, enhance protect and sustain tourism development in Nigeria and Africa.
Some of the treaties, agreements and frameworks include the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction UNDRR, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, UNWTO Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, SE4ALL, Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement AfCFTA, AfDB Climate Change and Green Growth Strategic Framework, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD, UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Africa Great Green Wall, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD, UNEP One Planet Network, International Council on Monuments and Sites ICCOMOS, the AU Agenda 2063 etc.
