Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation joins the global celebration of World Environment Day on June 5, 2024. This day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1973, is the largest international event focused on the environment and is coordinated by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Millions of people from various sectors participate annually to raise awareness and take action on environmental issues, aiming to protect our planet’s future.
The theme for 2024, “Our Land, Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration,” highlights the importance of restoring land, combating desertification, and enhancing resilience to drought. Currently, up to 40% of the world’s land is degraded, affecting around 3.2 billion people due to desertification. By 2050, projections indicate that over three-quarters of the world’s population will be affected by drought. This year’s World Environment Day leads up to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP16, set to take place in December 2024 in the United Kingdom, which will be the largest-ever international gathering on land and drought.
Human-induced environmental damage is escalating, causing serious issues such as climate change, ecosystem loss, and land desertification. It is our duty to protect the environment and restore land and nature to their natural state.
Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation focuses on climate action, biodiversity conservation, energy transition, and green development. The foundation works at the intersection of tourism, trade, and sustainability, targeting women, youth, MSMEs, communities, and cities. Through its advocacy programs and initiatives, Sayari Dunia supports Africa’s sustainable tourism development and climate action, aiming to accelerate the continent’s journey to net zero.
By participating in World Environment Day, Sayari Dunia underscores its commitment to restoring the environment and promoting sustainable development for a healthier planet.
